About this trip
Meghalaya, tucked away in India’s northeast, is a state that feels like a world apart. Known as the “abode of clouds,” it’s famous for its dramatic waterfalls, living root bridges, clean villages, and lush green hills. The best way to reach Meghalaya is by flying into Guwahati, Assam, which is well-connected to major cities. From there, it’s a scenic drive into the heart of Meghalaya. The weather can be unpredictable—sunshine one moment, mist the next—so pack light but smart. Mobile connectivity is decent in most areas, but this is a great place to unplug and explore. Whether you’re traveling solo or with friends, Meghalaya’s mix of nature, culture, and adventure makes it a solid pick for a backpacking trip. Adding Kaziranga National Park to this itinerary makes the experience even more rewarding. Located in Assam, Kaziranga is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the world’s largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses. It’s also known for its rich biodiversity, including tigers, elephants, swamp deer, and hundreds of bird species. An early morning Jeep Safari here offers a chance to witness wildlife in its natural habitat—something that adds a whole new dimension to your Northeast India adventure. Combining Meghalaya’s waterfalls and caves with Kaziranga’s wild terrain gives you the best of both worlds: nature’s serenity and raw wilderness. Now, if you’re wondering how to make this trip smooth and memorable, that’s where JustWravel steps in.
