Small things. Better trips.

Practical reminders for the days before departure and the journey itself.

Planning

  • Choose dates and a departure point before comparing trips. Include the time and cost of reaching the meeting point.
  • Read the day-by-day itinerary and ask about any activity you are unsure you can complete.
  • Leave room in your plans for travel delays, and check the trip’s change and cancellation terms.

Packing

  • Use the organiser’s packing list as your starting point, then check luggage limits.
  • Keep your booking confirmation, identification and organiser contact accessible.
  • Choose footwear and layers for the activities in the itinerary. Ask the organiser about specialist equipment before buying or packing it.

Budget

  • Compare total costs, including transport to the departure point and items excluded from the trip price.
  • Check whether meals, entry fees, accommodation arrangements and equipment are included.
  • Keep a record of payments and the terms that applied when you booked.

On the road

  • Share your itinerary and contact details with someone you trust.
  • Follow your guide’s instructions and local rules, and ask before photographing people.
  • Take your rubbish with you, respect shared spaces and let your organiser know if you need help.
